SelectingEvidence-BasedSchoolIntervention-FL18Sec2
According to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), schools receiving Title I, Section 1003 (School Improvement) funding are required to implement evidence-based interventions proven to be effective in leading to desired outcomes. To assist schools and districts in this process, the Office of School Improvement will be offering a repeat of the regional training sessions presented on selecting evidence-based interventions, offered in the Spring of 2018. These sessions will be for CSI, TSI, and ATSI schools. The Selecting Evidence-Based School Interventions training will provide participants with user-friendly tools to make informed intervention decisions. Attendees will explore various types of interventions and learn how to identify the levels of evidence-based studies using online resources. Teams of educators will engage in a review of case studies and recommend interventions based on school profiles. In addition, schools will be guided through a process of reflection as they identify critical needs and evaluate next steps. Districts are asked to select 2-3 individuals, directly responsible for guiding their schools in the selection of evidence-based interventions to attend.

Participants who attend the Selecting Evidence-Based School Interventions training will learn how to:

  •  Define evidence-based interventions
  •  Examine four tiers of evidence as defined by ESSA
  •  Identify local school needs
  •  Find and select relevant evidence-based interventions

Participants are asked to bring a laptop to utilize during this training. This session earns 5 SEMIs (upon approval by MDE) and .6 CEUs
